We were started because we found that too many Rescuers had lost sight of what their purpose was.  They focused more on Getting Donations rather than helping people find loving companions.  They had become so angry with humanity that they forgot that they were helping people too at one point.  It becomes about the money and "how much can we get for this dog?" and Pure bred dogs meaning more money.  At Brooklyn's Home for Unwanted Bullies our Philosophy is based on helping people and animals find each other.  Its kind of like finding your soul mate, if the animal wasn't meant to be with you the match won't work.  Our goal is not to make profit for the rescue(if we do Great! But its not our goal) but to pay what we need to for each dog so that we can take in new animals and help them.

Pit Bulls in the News

Who do we take in? Our rescue takes in alot more than just Pit Bulls.  We also have a member on staff who specializes in Reptiles, another who specializes in Cats and a member in East TX who is a licensed rehabilitator!  We take in all breeds of dogs, however, Pit Bulls ALWAYS get priority!

Our rescue is focused mainly on breeds that are in danger of being faught or of serious neglect.  This includes "Pit Bulls", Boxers, Dobermans, Rott Weilers and so on.  However, if we have the room we do take in animals of other breeds and species, such as Reptiles, Cats and Birds.  We even have people on staff who are licensed rehabilitators and work with Texas Parks and Wildlife.  All of our members are properly trained in their area of expertise and have been working as animal care givers in all sorts of different capacities.  The animals have our total dedication.  All of our animals are Temperament tested, FULLY Vaccinated, De-wormed and checked out by local vets.  Most animals are even already Spayed and neutered!ed/Neutered!!!

Reptiles... We have a special place in our hearts for the creepy, crawly, slimy and scaley.  For years Brooklyn worked at a wild life rescue in Tyler TX where she fell in love with the "Exotic" animals.  These creatures remind her of her summer trips with her family to the outskirts of Bayamon and San Juan Puerto Rico.  There she got in lots of trouble for trying to sneak Coqui(the official animal of P.R.!!!) and Chamelean Lizards on the Bus and used to have hours of fun chasing the un known lizards in her Abuelas backyard.  Therefore at B.H.U.B. we always will try to help Reptiles, Amphibians and such.  Please check out our Reptile Page where you will meet Brooks Reptiles she has helped...

To the right... This is Bella Mia(My Beutiful One).  She and her brother Mini Me(named because he was identicle to his mom Kisses just one eighth her size!) are perfect examples why people should vaccinate their pets.  See Kisses had not be vaccinated before becoming pregenant with them and was exposed to the distemper virus.  Therefore when the pups were born they already had the virus distroying their systems.  In Eutero Distemper usually takes 6 weeks to show itself and is almost always deadly.  As you can tell out of a litter of 11 pups only 2 survived.  It was hard work but we did it.  Bella Lives up to her name and is now is a great home with a social worker!!!

To the left....... This is Spirit.  He was a 6 month old Pit Bull Mix who was being used as a BAIT dog.  A BAIT dog is an animal that is used to rain the more agressive dogs to fight.  When they serve their purpose they are usually either shot, hung, burned alive or left for dead on the side of the road.  A good deal of these animals are found at Mountain Veiw Lake in Dallas County. Spirit found a home with a loving family who now lives on a military base in Washington State.  But he is an example of what a survivor looks like!!!
